While the fireworks display lit up the Marina Bay skyline as Louis Hamilton roars pass the finish line of the 2019 Formula One Singapore Grand Prix, the organizers of the inaugural Festival Of Speed (FOS) too, were celebrating success.

I have had the pleasure of working with the Legion Of Racers (LOR) team, organizers of FOS, from the very beginning, and can state with firm certainty that the dedication and effort was highly commendable. To pull off an event of this magnitude would have been daunting, even for the best of teams, let alone a fresh young team organizing on this scale for the very first time. After six months of intensive discussions and preparations, leading up to the very day before the start of the festival, there were challenges to fight and ‘fires to put out’. But results are all that matters and it was results they delivered.

Close to 4,000 tickets were scanned throughout the 10-day festival, with 63% of participants from Singapore and 37% of participants from overseas.

Strategic partnerships were key to the success of the overall event, likewise the support from core sponsors, but none as important as the friends and visitors who visited and participated.

Spanned across two-weeks, from the 13th till the 22nd of September, the 2019 Festival Of Speed was structured to provide maximum exposure to the widest possible range of visitors and enthusiasts.

Welcoming international travellers from around the world, as well as participants from the local community, the Urban RC @ Jewel Changi Airport offered a unique taste of what radio-controlled cars were capable of, and a different experience to motorsports.

The Gallery Of Speed was situated on the pedestrian boulevard alongside Orchard Road, at the entrance of Mandarin Gallery, from the 13th till the 17th of September. Probably one of the most eye-catching exhibits as a part of this year’s Grand Prix Season Singapore, would have been the Aston Martin inspired ‘TUBE-ulence’. Already iconic, this art installation has received widespread acclaim and was one of the most instagrammed during the Formula 1 week.

The open air Grange Road carpark was converted in its entirety to a karting circuit, the first such project ever attempted in the heart of Singapore. Titled the Arena Of Speed, this karting experience was opened to the public from the 18th till the 22nd of September, coinciding with the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix weekend.

The fun-karts used were capable of 30km/h top speeds, offering just the right amount of excitement with safety in mind on the 10-turn circuit With a length of approximately 200m.
