9tro: How did Infiniti Owners Club Singapore get started?
It started in early 2015 when i realised the agent was new to the brand, and there was virtually no community for the brand in Singapore. Without a community, there will be very little confidence to buy the Infiniti brand. Owners will also be alone in seeking advice and support. So we got started on Facebook first, and the first batch of owners soon joined as admins and we started recruiting owners.
We also wanted to clarify many misconceptions (history and technical) about the brand and the product. For such a "new" brand to Singapore, there are still plenty of misinformation even after a few years.
9tro: What kind of activities does the club organise or participate in?
We have mini get-togethers (gtg) which can be anything from five to 15 cars. Normally quite impromptu or best two days ahead.
Some mini-gtg can be interest based too, such as photography, food...etc
We try to have at least one annual North Trip Drive to Malaysia. These trips can have up to 30+ cars, and really that is because we wanted a manageable fleet so safety is not compromised. As we grow rapidly I think, we may have a 50 car north drive convoy soon.
9tro: Could you tell us more about previous meetups?
The club has done a few road trips up north over the years and earlier this year, we had an overnight trip to Melaka which the club members get to dive into the local culture and of course; Peranakan Food.
There was also a day trip to Desaru where we get to savor some delicious noodles hidden right in the central Johor town of Layang-Layang before heading to a fruit farm in Desaru for an educational tour. Trip was round up by a sumptuous lobster lunch at Pengarang, another small town near Desaru.
As for our routine weekend night gatherings, it started off as a get to know each other sessions, share our knowledge on our beloved rides and as time goes by, such gatherings no longer stops at topics on cars. Lots of our members have become friends and we start to share details of our daily lives; for e.g. places for good food, cheap bargains, holiday destinations etc etc.
9tro: What are the future plans for the club?
We do hope that the local Infiniti owner population will grow and more could eventually join us and besides our routine gatherings, we do have upcoming plans to organize road trips in the near future and we even have plans to hold a private dinner gathering soon.
9tro: Any last words for our readers, who might want to join you guys?
Don’t be shy, reach out to us. We are a bunch of friendly folks. Promise we do not bite :) Seriously, the club is a good place for you to learn more about your rides and at times, you will be surprised of how much knowledge you could gain by joining the club.
