An unlucky weekend for the GCK team supported by Bilstein: Only Anton Marklund qualifies for the semi-finals at the 9th round of the World Rally Cross Championship. For Guerlain Chicherit, the weekend is already finished after the qualifying round.

On Saturday Anton Marklund and Guerlain Chicherit impressed with really fast times in the first two qualifying races. But on Sunday morning Chicherit received the bad news: Because he had touched the launch button during the second qualifying race, he was subsequently disqualified – and ranked 18th. A hard blow. Despite the third-fastest time in Q3, the Frenchman could not qualify for the Top-12 and thus for the semi-finals.

“For sure I’m disappointed – our pace was absolutely there and losing out on a top spot due to a mistake in Q2 was like a kick in the teeth, especially as our speed in the following races in the rain was super competitive also”, explained Guerlain Chicherit.

Anton Marklund did better in the second Renault Megane RS RX. The Swede qualified for the semi-finals without any problems. And also the first semi-final race started promisingly: Started from the second row, the Renault driver was able to catapult himself sensationally directly to first place. But when braking for the first left turn, Anton Marklund and Andreas Bakkerud in the Audi S1 collided. The field was mixed up – and Anton found himself in fourth place.

Anton now fought for third place, which would have meant qualifying for the final. But Liam Doran in the Audi S1 was able to maintain his third place – only three tenths ahead of Anton in the Renault. The end for the fast Swede.

„Unfortunately, there wasn’t much I could do in the semi from the position I was put in, that’s the way it is sometimes”, said a disappointed Anton Marklund after missing out on the final. His focus is on the last race of the season: “We’ll put the pressure on in South Africa.”

Timmy Hansen won the final race ahead of Niclas Grönholm and Andreas Bakkerud. With his victory in Latvia, Hansen took the lead at the WRX.
