Nagoya, Japan - As a true motorcycle enthusiast, I could not miss one big event taking place at Nagoya Port Messe - JOINTS. Although coverage of the event was made somewhat complicated by the organisers, I was nonetheless able to take lots of photos and meet many skilled professionals from the scene.
While cars were sent to their usual parking buildings, visitors coming on their motorcycles were luckier as they had dedicated parking areas right in front of the entrance with dedicated sectors “reserved” for the dominant local MCs.
As a result, lots of cool rides were already visible on the outside much to the delight of bikers attending the event even before they entered the main event hall. Upon entering, visitors could even participate in a lottery and walk away with a Shovel head Harley-Davidson as the grand prize.
Undeniably, the quality level of the project bikes inside was typically “Japanese”. You will be hard pressed to find any flaws in most of the rides displayed with some bikes fetching a six figure price in US dollars!
Endo Motorcycle brought an armada of Shovel heads, rigid frame super low rides, some of the coolest you can imagine and each and every one of them was a work of art.
At another booth I met Kenji Hoshi, the boss of Kings Custom Paint and he showed me one of the most amazing paint jobs I had ever seen. 3D with structure, he can reproduce carvings, brushed or polished metal, wood and other effects, with structure, all done with nothing but paint! It was hard to believe, even when touching the actual products. He explained that his ultimate dream would be to be able to sell one gas tank for about 1 million yen and honestly that would be the minimum for such a level of art. To my knowledge he is the only one doing custom paint at this level…Truly outstanding!
