For the 2018 KLIMS, several of 9tro’s Singapore team were here as well - Amanda, Barry and Arun were on deck doing videos and live social media coverage. I’m sure that you have already seen it online.
Coming back to what surprised me the most at first was the massive amount of novelties from the Asian brands as well as the almost total absence of European brands!
Only two French brands were displaying models and novelties - they were Peugeot and Citroen. There were a couple of Mercedes Benz cars displayed thanks to Petronas, but that was it. Where are you, Volkswagen, Ferrari, Range Rover? There are many of your cars in town, you do have clients here, why are you not participating in KLIMS?
Let’s skip this subject and talk about the brands who were here.
I started my journey with Honda and their massive booth. Hondas are everywhere on the streets of KL, the locals here trust and love the cars. What I hope to see more soon are the new HR-V RS and the Mugen version of the Jazz and HR-V - all clad in a very appealing red paint job. I’m sure a lot of car buyers would wish to upgrade their current rides to the latest model.
Displayed as well were remote-less games with the widest screens available, which was a true success among kids and adults.
I checked out Honda’s sensor technology demonstration with shopping carts. This was very futuristic in a completely white environment, a bit surprising but very well made.
Speaking of the future, this is how Honda sees hydrogen cars as the next step and I had the chance to see the Clarity Fuel Cell. I am not so sure when hydrogen will be available in Malaysia but will keep you updated when the news hits.
Honda was not the only one thinking of hydrogen for our future. It’s also the case with Hyundai. They where displaying a hydrogen model called Nexo. It featured an impressive design and a swanky interior. Hopefully the design language makes it into production models in the near future.
Next to the the Hydrogen Nexo, was the full electric Kona along with the hybrid Ioniq.
Besides the green cars on display, Hyundai also brought along the New Santa Fe, one of the best looking SUVs in the market, the petrol version of the Kona and the rocket i30 N! Can you imagine, they put race-car tech into the i30 N? What an engine!
