Bangkok, Thailand - Bridgestone recently flew a group of over 40 South East Asian journalists (9tro included!) to their Proving Grounds on the outskirts of Bangkok to witness the launch of their all-new Turanza T005A touring tyres as well as to try them out for ourselves.
First launched in Europe in 2017, the Turanza T005A has received a number of changes from Bridgestone’s very own Technical Centre in Thailand to better suit it for the SEA market/roads. With the new Turanza T005A replacing its predecessor, the Turanza GR100 (which we might add was already very impressive), drivers will experience a quieter, safer and smoother journey.
The new Turanza T005A has been developed with Bridgestone’s industry-leading technologies to take care of all your needs on the road. Top off the list is just how much quieter the new T005As are thanks to a Variable Pitch. Randomised pitch variation is applied to each tread block (the inside shoulder, centre and outside shoulder) to reduce pattern noise.
Another contributing factor to reduced noise is the inclusion of High-Angle Sipes. The angle of the sipes to the contact line has been fine-tuned to soften tyre contact impact on the road, leading to a less pronounced pattern noise.
Bridgestone has also made the new Turanza tyres safer too with Chamfering - whereby rounded sipe edges prevent tyre deformation and ensure a flat contact with the road, improving braking performance.
This leads us to the T005A’s next highlight, its a lot smoother too thanks to an optimised contact shape as Bridgestone has improved its overall design that ensures the tyre applies consistent contact pressure on the road reducing shock and impact noise for better comfort. A reinforced sidewall that’s stiffer reduces damping and further improves comfort.
Rounding off the list of changes is the usage of a new compound that features Nano Pro-Tech and a compound agent that is used to strengthen the bond between silica and polymer, increasing their contact area. This reduced heat generation and energy loss leads to better wet performance as a whole.
To further emphasise their point, Bridgestone invited the media to take the tyres out in various driving exercises held throughout the Proving Grounds to experience it for ourselves. Both the GR100 and the new T005As were fitted to popular models like the Toyota Camry and BMW 520d we got to try them out first hand the massive difference and improvement the newer tyres had over their predecessor who in their own right were the benchmark in the segment.
