Boosted Magazine’s photographer, Kasper Erling, met Christian Christensen on a cold day at Falster in Southern Denmark. He is the driver of the Mazda and team owner as well with a dedication to his hobby, that can be spotted without even talking to him yet.

Actually it might be wrong to call it a hobby, because Christian has gone further and made drifting his lifestyle where the whole family is involved. It's very admirable, but how did it happen at that point? We ask Christian about it, though he was distracted at the sight of the big open space at Sax Trans A / S, which we borrowed and, in a moment, will have black tyre marks all over courtesy of a small, potent MX-5 pushing eight times more power than the standard car.

A smashed car started it all. Back in 2011, Christian got a taste of drifting, and since then it has accelerated. He started with a Volvo 360, which had been retrofitted and made about 300hp. But at a round of Scandinavian Drift Series in Aarhus, it was "parked" hard into a concrete barricade, which killed the very first Overboost Drift Team car. Christian quickly bought a new Volvo 360 body and built the entire driveline in it. Then he was back on track again the following season.

“The Volvo was a good start, but I simply could not keep the engine running. After going through three engines, I finally gave up, sold the car and had to reconsider it all,” explains Christian.

"I really wanted to stop drifting - it was simply too expensive and drained my energy, but I just could not help wondering how I could do it with a new car that just worked. That's why I bought my first MX-5 and dropped a turbocharged BMW V8 into it. With that car, I regained the joy of drifting completely and yes, here we are,” Christian laughs.

Drifting has unfortunately never caught on in Danish motorsport, and therefore Christian does not have the opportunity to live his dream of driving professionally within the country's borders. As such the team participates in the full BDC series, which includes five laps on different tracks in England.

It's a huge investment economically, but with the drive and now also the equipment that the boys have, the chance of dominance very real. They missed the first round of the BDC as the MX-5 encountered mechanical issues. But now that the car is on track, we look forward to following the Overboost Drift Team chase their dreams in England. Every race can be seen live on www.thebritishdriftchampionship.co.uk. We are ready to cheer for the Danes!
