Singapore - The high performance compact car segment has come alive as of late, with German car makers pushing the limits of their already highly capable models even further.
Then came BMW with their awe-inspiring M2, in a compact coupe body but packing a heady forced-fed 3.0-litre straight six that churns out 370hp. Now Audi probably has the last laugh as their RS3 is back with a vengeance and a new body too.
Now you can have your RS3 in Sportback or in sedan form too. But that’s not all, Audi Sport have somehow managed to make the new 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine lighter and more powerful, arming it with 394 ponies with 480Nm of twist thanks to an all-aluminium crankcase plus dual injection, that frees up 26kg upfront.
Paired to an all new 7-speed S-tronic dual-clutch transmission, the compact sedan will hit 100km/h in just over 4 seconds before topping out at an electronically limited 250km/h.
That’s mind-blowing coming from a vehicle no bigger than your standard A3 and weighing in at just 1,510kg. The RS3 has a poise and balance rarely seen in any vehicle in this segment when driven to the limit, driving it was as simple as pointing it in any direction you want, gun it and watch the little saloon blast off into the horizon with brutal acceleration that is still very controllable.
