Singapore - It would seem like 2017 would be best remembered as the year of the compact crossover as nearly every test-drive offered from every brand is a crossover. Don’t ask me what’s the Asian fascination with crossovers though, pretty much like how the 90s till the early 2000s were ruled by sedans, consumer tastes have changed and people are now plonking down cash for these elevated lifestyle rides.
Anyway let’s leave that for another time as our topic today is the all-new Audi Q2. Now the brand with the four rings might be a little late to the compact crossover party but that doesn’t mean their offering isn’t any better. In fact its actually pretty good.
Right off the bat, you would notice the Q2 is a drastically different animal altogether. While the Q3 resembled a smaller Q5, the Q2 looks nothing like its lineage. Bulbous curves have been replaced with sharp angular lines that exude a more urban appeal than an off-road one.
Make no mistake though, its still definitely an Audi with its trapezoid grille and slick head and tail-lights, just not very Q-ish. The interior too has been given a shot of youthful exuberance, expect Audi levels of built quality and materials but with a tad more colour (my test-unit’s red paint job translated into the cabin as well with red accents on accompanying panels and red stitching on the seats).
