Singapore - Need a tool or tool storage solution for all your motorcycle or automotive needs? Our spotlight today is on Widos Asia, the official distributor for industry leading brands like SBV and BOXO here in Asia-Pacific.
For those that may find the names familiar, SBV and BOXO are world-renowned for their innovative motorcycle tool and storage solutions. We speak to Mr. Terence Sim, Sales and Marketing Manager of WIDOS ASIA to learn more about the company and the products their carry.
9tro: How and why was the company started?
Widos: Widos Technology (Asia Pacific) Pte Ltd was first set up in 1993 by Mr Lai Kim Chang (who has retired in 2007). With over 10 years of experience and knowledge in the trade of plastic welding machine and plumbing tools, Mr Lai saw the opportunities and demands of the industry back then and made the executive call to start the company.
9tro: We understand that Widos specialises in plastic welding, how did SBV and BOXO factor into the brands you carry?
Widos: While working with Mr Lai, Mr Terence Sim (Marketing and Sales Manager) took great interest in dealing tools and started to seek opportunities to expand the company with a department specialising in tools for the trade. The team constantly looks out for good quality tools and reliable suppliers, and introduced various innovational tools that are efficient and safe to use for end-users.
We started off with selling torque wrenches and soon we received enquiries for various other tools like socket, bits, tool cabinets and more. From these requests, we did our market research and found BOXO, which we introduced and supplied their quality tool boxes to local companies like ST, Go Ahead, and more. We were also introduced to SBV Tools; a great brand with a portfolio of innovation tools and motorcycle tool set that are very suitable for most brands of motorcycles seen in Asia.
9tro: Could you describe how the automotive tool industry is like in Singapore?
Widos: The automotive market is very competitive and we are relatively new to the scene. Our team strives to constantly upgrade our knowledge and keep our eyes peeled for new tools as the lifespan of most vehicles in Singapore is only 10 years maximum. There are always new models being released, and with each model comes a variety of new tools that may be needed.
9tro: What are the USPs of brands like SBV and BOXO versus other brands?
Widos: These brands we carry promise lifetime warranty, innovative concepts and affordability.
9tro: What are your future plans?
Widos: Our e-commerce platform is our focus for the consumer market. With our revamped site that will be launched in August 2018, we aim to bring the company to new heights and continually supply affordable and good quality tools to end users.
