Sepang, Malaysia - Clear skies and shearing heat summed up the conclusion of the 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia Race 2 as GruppeM’s #888 Mercedes-AMG GT3 driven by Brice Bosi and Raffaele Marciello took an effortless win as they led from start to finish.
Yesterday’s champions, the #999 GruppeM Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Patric Niederhauser and Nico Bastian though did not fare as well, experiencing mechanical issues throughout the race before retiring on Lap 3. Second on podium went to the #37 Absolute Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 of Anthony Liu and Josh Burdon crossing the line some 26 seconds after the race leader.
In third was the #63 FFF Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Hiroshi Hamaguchi and Marco Mapelli. Interestingly the top three cars on podium were all from GT3PA. In fourth was the first of the GT3S cars, the #3 Absolute Racing Audi R8 LMS of Martin Rump and Franky Cheng who were 42 seconds off first place.
Fifth spot went to another GT3S, the #27 HubAuto Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3 driven by Hongli Ye and Nick Foster. Yesterday’s second placed #19 FFF Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Martin Kodric and Dennis Lind only managed a sixth spot struggling to find pace throughout the race.
