Singapore - The humble Corolla has come a long way since its inception, a reliable workhorse that’s the staple for nearly everyone around the world. In Singapore, the Toyota Corolla Altis has been sourced from Thailand after the G9 Corolla - the last known made in Japan model for our market at least. But that hasn’t stopped the people here from snapping them up like hotcakes.
In fact, being built in Thailand has made the Corolla even more accustomed to our tropical climate and road conditions above all else. 9tro was at the Altis Group Singapore (AGS) Mega-Meet over the weekend to do a photoshoot for the club as well as to find out more about them.
9tro: How did the group come about?
AGS: Altis Group Singapore (formerly known as New Altis Group Singapore) started in 2014 as a platform to share modification ideas for the then new 11-generation Corolla Altis. Through ideas contributed by the pioneers and strong support from our network, we were able to create milestones on new mods for the Altis, while maintaining our beliefs on the use of genuine and high quality products to ensure reliability for our rides.
9tro: Could you tell us more about the previous meet-ups?
AGS: We have regular engagement activities such as our weekly coffee sessions, members’ birthdays, planned events such as charity bowling and even karting sessions by TRD and Motul.
9tro: How was this meet-up for you guys?
AGS: It’s fun, something different from our previous activities and to be featured by 9tro makes it meaningful and we look forward to more of such events.
9tro: What are your future plans for the club?
AGS: The vision of Altis Group Singapore is to create a community for like-minded owners to interact and forge new friendship, keeping the ‘Tomodachi’ (close friend in Japanese) spirit even beyond the lifespan of the car.
9tro: Any last words for our readers, who might want to join you guys?
AGS: There is a wealth of information and sharing that can be found within the Group, and good service support that could prove useful to the owners. We hope to keep our members interested in our activities and be inspired to continue personalising, modding and individualising their rides.
